Why do we suggest getting so much time for your song?
As multi-platinum and grammy-award nominated engineers/producers, we are proud of the quality we offer to artists. To make a song sound like the major releases you hear on the radio, we need time to take care of small details and make sure everything is perfect for your song.
Can we give you a bounce of your song right after we finish recording with the adjustments we typically do during tracking? Of course! And it will still probably sound better than what you get at a home studio and even other commercial studios. But then again, we want your music to have the same quality as top charting artists, which normally take a long time to finish their songs, so we still suggest booking enough time for that. However, we want you to have the freedom of creating your music in the way you feel most comfortable with, so feel free to book as many hours as you think is good for your session and we’ll make sure to give our best during that time to give you the most optimal results.
What do we do with all that time?
Recording
This is were we capture the artist’s performance. This might take different amounts of time for each artist, but generally recordings are finished within the time we suggest. While recording we want to make sure everything about the performance is great, from the emotion, enunciation, timing, etc.
Editing
Cleanup
During this process, we remove salivas, lip smacks, clicks, pops, and any other unwanted vocal noises from the recording. We even go as deep as removing sounds in between syllables, not just cutting out silent spaces in between words.
Pitch correction
We manually pitch correct the vocals that require it, since auto-tune will not automatically know how to do the best pitch correction for your performance. This is true even if you’d like to have the auto-tune effect, that way you are always hitting the right notes, it can give a more musical feel to the song and will typically make the vocals sound smoother than just throwing auto-tune on it.For artists that want a less-polished auto-tune feel, we can definitely skip the manual tuning if we are asked to.
Time correction
We time correct vocals and instruments, if there is need to do time correction, and align background vocals like doubles, in-and-outs and harmonies, so they sound tight and polished when played together with the rest of the tracks.
Mixing
This is were we EQ, compress, and add effects to your vocals so they blend in as nice as possible to your track. We go into detail to automate volumes and effects so the different sections of the song have the vibe that they need. We make sure that every setting we use for the processing of the tracks gives them the feel you are looking for, so when they are played together with any major artist songs, they have that same quality an energy as top commercial releases.
Mastering
This is the final step of the engineering process. Here we get the song ready to be released out into the world. We adjust the overall volume of the song, shape the song as a whole to bring out the best aspects of the mix, and tighten every detail to make the song sound cohesive and well presented. We include free automated mastering with all our mixes or you can choose to master with our multi-grammy-award-winning mastering engineer.
We encourage you to book an attended session, at least once, so you see all the crazy stuff we do to make songs sound awesome!
